Meet Penny

Penny & Lulu, Costa Rica

Penny Sommer is a graduate of NC State Business Coaching Institute and Newfield Coach Training Institute and a member of the International Coach Federation.

Prior to establishing her coaching practice, Penny spent over twenty years in sales and marketing roles with Fortune 500 companies. She was Vice President with Lee Hecht Harrison in Charlotte, and held the position of Director of Small Business Council at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

Penny's curiosity about people is her key to successful coaching. She is a skilled listener with the ability to both empathize with and challenge her clients. Tenacious about her clients' success, she holds them accountable to their goals. Her enthusiasm for life-long learning and intentional living are her motivation and serve as the platform for coaching with her clients.

As a member of Charlotte Women Executives, she serves as a mentor to young professional women. Penny gives back to the community through offering voluntary coaching services for graduate students of Queen's College and providing coaching and workshops for individuals who are going through career transition. She serves on the Board of the International Coach Federation Charlotte Chapter, and she is a member of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce as well as the Lake Norman Chamber.

Penny lives in Charlotte with her husband Michael, and two Siamese cats, Simba and Nikita. She has two wonderful children, Michael, a structural engineer and Rebecca, a zoologist who is studying landscape design. She enjoys travel, culinary arts, music, water-skiing, writing, and any kind of opportunity for life-long learning opportunities...including wildlife excursions.
